Summary
- RasterLab's App Store privacy manifest declares no collected data types and no tracking.
- The app contains no analytics, advertising or crash‑reporting SDKs, and no code that uploads media or usage information to a server.
- Camera, microphone and photo library access are used only to capture, render and save your media on the device.
- Location access is optional and, when granted, is used to tag your captures.
- Settings and in‑progress recordings are stored locally, including in a shared container used by the app's extensions.
Data collection and tracking
RasterLab ships an Apple privacy manifest (PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy) in the app and in its shared framework. Both declare:
| Tracking | NSPrivacyTracking = false. The app does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. |
|---|---|
| Tracking domains | None. |
| Collected data types | None. The app does not send personal data, identifiers, usage data or diagnostics to the developer. |
Apple may collect crash logs and analytics from your device according to your own iOS settings (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements). That data is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not by RasterLab.
Device permissions
iOS asks for each permission the first time it is needed and shows the purpose string below. You can change any of them later in Settings.
| Permission | Purpose shown by iOS | How RasterLab uses it |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | “RasterLab uses the camera to capture retro‑filtered photos and videos” | Live preview, photo and video capture. Camera frames are processed on the GPU in memory and are not stored unless you capture. |
| Microphone | “RasterLab records audio for your videos with retro filters” | Audio for video recordings and Live Photos. Not accessed outside of recording. |
| Photo Library — add | “RasterLab saves your retro‑filtered photos and videos to your photo library” | Writes finished captures to Photos. |
| Photo Library — read | “RasterLab accesses your photo library to save captured media” | Shows your recent captures in the in‑app gallery and editor, and lets the Photos editing extension work on an image you choose. |
| Location (while using the app) | “RasterLab adds location data to your photos for better organization” | Optional. When granted, the current location is attached to captures so Photos can organize them by place. Location is never sent to the developer. |
| Siri & Shortcuts | “RasterLab needs permission to allow quick actions from Siri.” | Enables App Intents for quick capture from Siri, Shortcuts, widgets and Control Center. |
The Lock Screen capture extension requests Camera and Photo Library permissions with equivalent purpose strings.
What is stored on your device
- Captured media. Finished photos, Live Photos and videos are saved to your Photo Library. The developer has no access to them.
- Recordings in progress and recovery data. While recording, RasterLab writes recoverable movie fragments and a small recovery journal to local app storage. If a recording is interrupted, these are kept until you choose Save, Restore or Discard. Live still captures are held in a durable local inbox until they are imported into Photos.
- Preferences. Filter favorites, saved filter chains, quality preset, recent filter history and similar settings are stored with
UserDefaults. - Shared container. The app and its extensions (Lock Screen capture, widgets, Share, Photos editing and Spotlight) share an App Group container (
group.com.mattimedia.rasterlab) so they can read the same settings and hand off captures. This container is on your device only. - Spotlight index. The Spotlight extension can index items so they appear in on‑device search. Spotlight indexes stay on the device.
- No iCloud sync by the app. RasterLab does not use iCloud or CloudKit entitlements. If your Photo Library syncs through iCloud Photos, that is your Apple account setting and is governed by Apple.
Deleting the app removes its local storage and shared container. Media already saved to Photos remains in your library.
Sharing and third parties
RasterLab does not sell, rent or share personal data with third parties. Media leaves your device only when you choose to share it using the iOS Share sheet or when your Photo Library syncs under your own Apple account settings.
The app includes the following open‑source components. They run entirely on your device and do not communicate with their authors:
The RasterLab Remote watch app exchanges control messages with the iPhone app over Apple's Watch Connectivity framework between your own paired devices.
Network access
Our review of the app's source found no networking code: no URL sessions, sockets or background transfer tasks, and no third‑party analytics, advertising or crash‑reporting libraries. The app does not need an internet connection to function.
Apple required‑reason APIs
Apple requires apps to declare certain system APIs and the reason for using them. RasterLab declares:
| API category | Declared reasons | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| User defaults | CA92.1, 1C8F.1 | Read and write the app's own settings, including settings shared with its extensions through the App Group. |
| File timestamp | C617.1 | Read timestamps of files inside the app's own container, for example to manage recordings and recovery data. |
Children
Needs owner confirmation: RasterLab is a general‑audience camera app and is not directed at children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it collects no personal information at all.
Your choices
- Revoke or change any permission at any time in Settings → Apps → RasterLab. The app continues to work without optional permissions such as Location and Siri.
- Delete captures from the Photos app. Delete the app to remove all local app data.
- Because RasterLab holds no account or server‑side data about you, there is nothing for the developer to export, correct or delete on request. Owner to confirm applicable regional rights language (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) if required for the markets where the app is sold.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of RasterLab adds a feature that changes how data is handled, this page will be updated and the effective date revised before that version is released.
